Shrewsbury Town were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the second round stage following a 4-0 defeat to Fleetwood Town at Highbury Stadium.

Fleetwood took the lead in the eighth minute when a dangerous cross into the penalty area was turned into his own net by Will Boyle. Shrewsbury began to dominate the ball and create opportunities, but failed to capitalise on their pressure.

The home side doubled their advantage just before the hour mark. Mark Helm's looping cross found captain Ched Evans in the area, and the striker sent his header back across goal beyond Will Brook. Evans added a third goal in the 35th minute, firing from ten yards out after another Helm cross.

Will Davies extended Fleetwood's tally with a fourth goal in added time to complete the rout.

Manager Gavin Cowan made two changes from Saturday's match, retaining a 3-4-1-2 formation. Will Brook started in goal with Luca Hoole, Boyle and Josh Ruffels in the back three. Isaac England and Jay Turner-Cooke started in midfield, with Arkell Jude-Boyd and Kevin Berkoe on the flanks. Isaac Fletcher operated behind the front pairing of Josh Davison and Joe Gbodé.

Both sides made substitutions at the break. For Shrewsbury, Jude-Boyd and Fletcher were replaced by Tom Anderson and Tom Sang. Fleetwood brought off Evans for Will Davis.
