A three-year-old from Shropshire is fronting Cancer Support UK's annual 'Fill A Kit' Christmas appeal, which aims to raise funds to send comfort kits to children undergoing cancer treatment across the UK.

Tanwen was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) just weeks after her second birthday in April 2025. After initially attending A&E at Shrewsbury Hospital, she was transferred to Telford Hospital and then Birmingham Children's Hospital, where she underwent five separate blocks of chemotherapy.

During her treatment, Tanwen received a Kids' Kit from Cancer Support UK containing toys, cosy socks, a heatable sensory Warmies bunny and other items. Her mother, Kay, described the impact of receiving the kit.

It was wonderful to see Tanwen's little face light up while she explored everything that was in the kit. She had just finished a round of high-dose chemo so was quite poorly when it arrived. It's heartwarming to think that even strangers care. I hope they know what a difference a thing like this makes, especially for children as young as Tanwen. They don't need big grand gestures. They just need little sparks of joy – and that's exactly what this little kit was for her.

According to Cancer Research UK, there are around 2,000 new cancer cases in children in the UK each year, based on figures for 2019 and 2021 to 2022. The Fill A Kit appeal asks the public to donate to provide kits to children facing treatment during the festive season.

Mark Guymer, CEO of Cancer Support UK, said: A cancer diagnosis affects the whole family, and treatment can be especially frightening and isolating for children. Our Kids' Kits provide comfort, distraction and a sense of normality during long hospital stays and difficult days at home. For children like Tanwen, they can bring moments of joy at a time when it is needed most. This Christmas, we're asking people to help us fill more kits so that no child facing cancer feels alone.

Donations to the Fill A Kit campaign can be made through Cancer Support UK's Fill A Kit Christmas appeal.
