Shrewsbury Town FC will host the Fred Davies Memorial Coracle Race on Sunday, August 30, starting at 2pm. The event will feature six heats, each with six competitors, with the winners progressing to a final to compete for the Fred Davies Memorial Cup.
Entry costs £25 per coracle. Participants must be 12 or over to take part. Spectators can watch the action from Abbey Gardens or the English Bridge.
Support and equipment
Shrewsbury Men's Shed are providing the coracles and paddles, throw lines, and life vests for the event. They will also offer refreshments for purchase on the day.
Purpose and community benefit
The event aims to connect young supporters with the club's unique history and to spread the enjoyment and use of coracles, particularly Shrewsbury-type coracles. All proceeds from the day will be raised for Shrewsbury Town Foundation to fund their work in Shrewsbury and the wider community.
