Shrewsbury Town manager Gavin Cowan has signed a new contract with the League Two club until at least summer 2028, and has asked supporters to be optimistic about the coming season.
Cowan took charge in January and guided the club to safety, picking up 27 points from 19 games to preserve their EFL status after two difficult seasons.
Building Optimism
Speaking to BBC Radio Shropshire, Cowan said there was reason to hope for improvement. "I'm asking them to be optimistic, I'm not trying to give any false promises, but there's a lot of hope out there when you see the types of players that we've got," he said.
"We're young, we're athletic, we're mobile and they're willing to learn."
Cowan highlighted a "really positive pre-season" as evidence of progress.
Transfer Market Challenges
The club faces restrictions on spending after an EFL-imposed transfer fee ban during the summer window, meaning signings are limited to loan players and free agents.
Cowan said he was working hard to bring new players in despite these constraints. "We're all working together to try to get the best possible squad, and I feel like two more players in the building, possibly three depending on the relationships we can get with clubs that are at a higher level, and that could put us in a really positive place," he said.
